2/21/16 Sunday Jekyll Island, Ga

We woke this morning to absolutely spring time weather!!!
We planned our day to mainly include being back and settled on the boat by 1pm to watch the Daytona nascar race!!! First race of the season!!
We took off on the bike and found a Dairy Queen just down the street and I enjoyed biscuits and gravy and Rod had eggs and hash browns with ham!! It was difinitely a fast food breakfast, but I guess it does beat cooking!, ha We rode down the south bike path that covers the entire length of the south island about 12 miles round trip. We stopped at the Wanderers Park and walked through the area and read all about the history of the slaves brought here from Africa by the ship The Wanderer. Some great history!!
We then rode back and into the historic district again as there was a trolley tour Rod wanted to take but, when we got there around 11am the next tour was not until 1pm and lasted a little over and hour!! WELL, that would have had us missing the first part of the race so we decided it would just have to wait until our next stay here! Lol
We just rode through the area and stopped in some of the shops and then was back at the boat by around 12:30 or so!!! THE RACE IS ON!!! The best Daytona race ever!!! It came down to 4 inches of a win to Denny Hamlin !!! Kept Rod on the edge of his seat!!!
I had made homemade spaghetti sauce and simmered most of the afternoon so spaghetti was the meal for supper!!!
Rested up, boat is ready to leave here tomorrow morning early!! High tide early in the morning gives us a good chance of getting through some areas with out any issues!!!! We will need 1 1/2 days to arrive at Isle of Hope in Savannah for our scheduled next stop.
We have had another good stay here at Jekyll Island!!
Please pray for journey tomorrow!! Love and blessings to all!!!  Fran & Capn Rod
Sorry no pics today!!!  :(

12/14/14 Sunday Jekyll Harbor Marina

Our last day at Jekyll Island!!!!! Got up this morning, did bible study, had coffee and orange cinnamon  rolls, and discovered that Rod had spoke to a guys yesterday afternoon about coming to clean the bottom of the boat. That's a maintenance thing you have to do about 2 times a year to keep all the barnacles and crud off the bottom. He said we should have better speed than we have had the last 4 days of travel and felt that may be the issue. This guy was to come at 8am, but called and said he was running behind an hour or so. We thought ok no issue, I wanted to finish laundry change sheets on bed, Vaccum and all that good stuff. He wanted to wash the windows and scrub walkways. Figuring we could go for a bike ride around noon! OK sooooo this guy shows up at 3pm!!!! Lots of cleaning got done needless to say!! Ha  the guy takes a look and said the bottom was clean but drive shafts and propellers were awful !!! Also the zincs had to be replace that prevents the barnacles from forming.
2 1/2 hours and $300.00 later it was completed!!!! To late to go bike riding now. But Rod was very glad to get it done.
Talk to some guys here as they went by the boat and they said they were playing music up at the restaurant about 6pm or so and invited us up!! So a shower later, as we had eaten left over chili earlier, we decided to go check out the music and have an appetizer. They were a group of people that had met here, never seen each other before today, just decided to have a 70s jam session!! Wow what musical talent!! 2 guitars, harmonica, trombone, and 2 Ukalaylies !! (Hope thats spelled correct!!ha) singing and harmony was incredible!! Too much fun! I posted some pics!!
We have the boat all ready for take off 7am tomorrow morning. 2 miles to the St Andrews Sound the dreaded body of water ALL boaters HATE to cross!!! We have been across 4 other times going down and back, and one time everything in the boat turned over it was so rough. The last 3 times have been good. But just one bad trip across will teach you it is one trip too many Ha !!!!! We have calculated the tide and it shows be falling and the wind is calm, so we should be ok!!! If not, we will turn around and wait till another time of day!!! We enter the state of Florida tomorrow just as we cross over the sound!!!  Florida here we come!!!! I'm ready to ride again been sitting long enough although we have enjoyed the island here!!
On the road again!!! Thanks for keeping our safe travels in your prayers!!!!
Love to all, Fran and Capt Rod

Singing boaters!! They just met today!! All of them had a tremendous amount of musical knowledge.

This gentleman could play a trombone!!! This was not his first rodeo!!!

jammin!!!!

This lady could sing and play that thing well!! You could tell she had played a long time!!,

12/13/14 Saturday Jekyll Harbor Marina

We pulled up anchor this morning early and was able to dock at Jekyll Island around 10am!!!
Is a beautiful day around 60 degrees. After a little housekeeping of washing the boat and putting things away we got on the bicycle and decided to tour the island and get some exercise !!! Lots of new bike paths, about 15 miles total around the island. We cover about 8 miles!!! Stop at an IGA grocery store and picked up a few items needed and there is a deli in the store so we purshhased pieces of grilled chicken and a drink and had a picnic on the bike path!! What a way to relax!!
We returned back to the boat and walked Lexie again she sure enjoys the social time with other people and other dogs!! We do too!!! There is a restaurant here at the marina called Sea Jays and we partook  in a great dinner of shrimp and grits for Rod and catfish and home made chips for me!!  Enjoyed the evening talking to others and relaxing a little!!  TV antenna working a little better here so we watched Christmas movies and collapsed in bed around 11am!! Tomorrow we will ride more of the island and enjoy the sites!!!
Loving a little docking time!!!
Love to all, Fran and Capt Rod

Resting for a few days at Jekyll Island!!!!
