2/24/16 Wednesday Isle of Hope Savannah, Ga

Well it was predicted to have severe thunder storms with possible tornados here during the night, but Thank you Lord they scooted right on past us!!! We did have some very high winds with gust up to 45-50 MPH and boy did the boat toss about!! Rod had to clean some pretty severe black marks off the side of the boat where it hit the dock so much during the night. Wind was still 15-20 mph with gusts up to 35-40 mph most of the day! But thankful we had a warm sunny day to go with all the wind.
We decided to take off in the marinas loaner car and spend the day in Downtown Savannah. We have been there so much we feel like we have seen everything there is to see there. We just love this town so much. We chose to take the Old Savannah Tours trolley tour again, as we get to see so much of the town, and get off at several stops and walk around see attractions and then get back on again. We were told of a new Webb Military History Museum and decided to get off at that stop and check it out. We were so impressed with all the war memorabilia this guy has collected, and was told what we saw in the museum was only about 1/3 of his collection!! Just as we were completing the tour through the museum the owner came in and we were introduced to him. Gary Webb has been collecting war memorabilia and relics since he was 10 years old. We spend almost and hour just standing and talking to him. A real treat!!!
We got back on the trolley and completed the rest of the tour around town and decided we had been tourist long enough today! Lol  We drove back to the boat and still the wind was tossing the boat around so we made the decision to stay here one more day rather than try and battle this wind on the water!! I was quiet happy about that!!! I hate traveling in rough water. And we have nothing that can't wait another day for us to be able to travel in better conditions!!!
I made a big pot of chili for supper, and we worked on the reservation book for tours in March and April. I even have a few people booking for July 4th weekend!!!
March is typically a slow month usually we do tours 3-4 days a week.
Getting prepared to crank up another year of tours!!
Since we thought we would be leaving tomorrow, I have no idea what's will be on the agenda!!
I will let you know tomorrow night!!!
Love and Blessings to all,  Fran & Capn Rod

This is the best tour in town!!

If your ever there don't forget it's the white bus!

The new Webb military museum.

He dedicated the museum to his Mom and Dad. So hope you can read this letter!

2/22/16 Monday Red bird Creek south of Savannah, Ga

After a horrible night with stomach issues that kept me up the biggest part of the night, we got up and prepared to untie and leave Jekyll Island. Lexie got in a good walk, and by the time the sun came up we were ready to cruise on north again.
It was cloudy most of the day but a great day on the water!! It was like glass most of the day!! As I have said before on our past adventures through Georgia, it is the most boring part of the trip!! We did not see a house and only one boat all day!!! Just miles and miles of marsh!! But I was thankful for a smooth ride in the water!!
We decided to anchor at Redbird creek about 10 miles from Isle of Hope. Main reason, there is a 3 mile area called Hellgate, that is only about 2-3 ft deep at low tide. If we went through there this evening it would have been very close to low tide!! We know it will be high tide in the morning when we go through and we will have no problems!!
We can be at Isle of Hope in Savannah by 10am or so tomorrow and have most of the day to sight see!! It is predicted to rain here tomorrow afternoon and severe thunderstorms and high winds on Wednesday. So we may not get any sightseeing in on Wednesday!! Yuk!!!
We anchored today about 3:30pm in this beautiful creek and sat on the back deck and enjoyed the georgeous view. Then Rod tied an old grapefruit to a fishing line and threw it out behind the boat and we had a BB gun shooting contest!! Oh what you do for entertainment sitting at anchor on a boat in the middle of no where!!! Ha  We did have enough wifi to be able to FaceTime with Allie, our grand daughter and wish her a Happy birthday!! OMG!! I can't believe she is 14!!
We are able to get a few TV channels!! We did get caught up on a little news. Not having much sleep last night, although I did get a couple of short naps in today, I am going to bed soon!!
I do have a few pics to share from today!!
Please continue to pray for our journey home!! Love and blessings to all, Fran & Capn Rod

This guys was in no way bothered by us going by!

Passing the evening time with a BB gun shooting contest!!  I won but then again I have the nicer gun with a scope!! Lol
I let him use my gun sometimes!!, lol

We are shooting at this grapefruit about 50ft or so behind the boat!!

Having fun!!! Hehe OMG I sure am ready for a hair cut as soon as I get home!!

2/23/16 Tuesday Isle of Hope, Savannah, Ga

We had an incredible nights sleep in Redbird creek. We only had about a 3 hour trip today to arrive at the Isle of Hope Marina. A beautiful morning ride and as I told you yesterday we had to go through the shallow area called Hellgate!!! Even on high tide this morning we had places it was only 6 ft deep!! (Our boat requires 4 ft to float) so it made us very glad we decided to not try and go through there last evening at low tide!!
We got docked this morning around 10am. Boat all settled in Lexie walked and we decided to take off and enjoy some time here. We went up to the dock house to check in and pay our dockage, and it started raining. They told us to just take the loaner car no other people here had requested it today. So we took the bike back to the boat and off we went in a car!!! We had not had breakfast so we first went to a locals place called Loc's Chicken and Waffles. (We had been there last year). Good ole home cooked breakfast!!! We then visited the Walmart just down the street for a few things as we wanted to get prepared for the horrible storms they are forecasting for tomorrow.
By the time we got back to the boat with our goodies, it was a beautiful afternoon. They told us to go ahead and use the car the rest of the day!! So, we decided to drive out to Tybee Island for the afternoon. A great 35 min ride out to the island. We got out of the car and I was taking pics and as we was walking around discovered the lighhouse and the museum is closed every Tuesday!!! Aw shucks!!! We were so disappointed!! We drove around the island just checking out the area. Cute little town.
We will come back and visit there again.
On the way back to the boat we saw a Five Guys and decided it must be a burger and fries for supper!!!
We are settled in for the night and watching the weather as it is predicted to be bad with some strong winds. We are tied very secure to a dock and feel we will be fine.
I'll let you know tomorrow how we faired this storm.
It may be a stay at home day tomorrow!!! I really wanted to go into downtown Savannah but we will just have to see how it goes.
I have a few pics to share!, hope you enjoy!! Love to all, Fran & Capn Rod

A beautiful sunrise as we left Redbird creek this morning.

I could not resist taking this pic!!! As we went by a new housing development where they had just completed these docks!!! I know there must have been 10,000 seagulls sunning!, lol

Rod spotted this nest with a pair of golden eagles sitting on the nest!!

Docked at a safe Marina to weather the coming storm!!!

A great breakfast!! It's a locals hangout here on the island.

Tybee Island lighthouse!! So sad it was closed today!! We will go back!!

2/21/16 Sunday Jekyll Island, Ga

We woke this morning to absolutely spring time weather!!!
We planned our day to mainly include being back and settled on the boat by 1pm to watch the Daytona nascar race!!! First race of the season!!
We took off on the bike and found a Dairy Queen just down the street and I enjoyed biscuits and gravy and Rod had eggs and hash browns with ham!! It was difinitely a fast food breakfast, but I guess it does beat cooking!, ha We rode down the south bike path that covers the entire length of the south island about 12 miles round trip. We stopped at the Wanderers Park and walked through the area and read all about the history of the slaves brought here from Africa by the ship The Wanderer. Some great history!!
We then rode back and into the historic district again as there was a trolley tour Rod wanted to take but, when we got there around 11am the next tour was not until 1pm and lasted a little over and hour!! WELL, that would have had us missing the first part of the race so we decided it would just have to wait until our next stay here! Lol
We just rode through the area and stopped in some of the shops and then was back at the boat by around 12:30 or so!!! THE RACE IS ON!!! The best Daytona race ever!!! It came down to 4 inches of a win to Denny Hamlin !!! Kept Rod on the edge of his seat!!!
I had made homemade spaghetti sauce and simmered most of the afternoon so spaghetti was the meal for supper!!!
Rested up, boat is ready to leave here tomorrow morning early!! High tide early in the morning gives us a good chance of getting through some areas with out any issues!!!! We will need 1 1/2 days to arrive at Isle of Hope in Savannah for our scheduled next stop.
We have had another good stay here at Jekyll Island!!
Please pray for journey tomorrow!! Love and blessings to all!!!  Fran & Capn Rod
Sorry no pics today!!!  :(

12/13/15 Sunday Travel Day 3 Headed South

We pulled up our anchor this morning a tad bit late as I kind of over slept by about 30 mins. Oh well, we had a long day yesterday!!!  It was a a beautiful morning leaving the Savannah anchorage but we will return in late Feburay and visit here for a few days.
We traveled 93 miles today crossing 4 large sounds. I know you remember I said last year "Georgia is the most boring state to travel in on the ICW"!!!  We had a few dolphins play in our wake today, which does keep Lexie occupied, she will continue to look for ever!! Ha
We had beautiful weather, wearing shorts and tee shirts and danced and sang Christmas music!!
What a way to pass the time away!!!  Rod got so bored today he even cleaned Windows  as I drove the boat.
I made a big pot of spaghetti sauce, of which we ate for supper and had leftovers for another meal.
I did entertain us today with some funny pics I will share with you!! Hehe
We are anchored this evening at Mackay River just before Brunswick,Ga It a beautiful this evening but boy is it dark out. No moon, a little cloudy, so no stars and we are out in the middle of no where!! It's difinitely a quiet place to be and enjoy. But to bed early, Rod wants me up and ready to pull up anchor at 6:30am!!! I thought 6:30 only came in the PM!!!! Haha
Enjoy my pics from today!!
Please continue to pray for safe travels for us!!! Love to our family and friends!!! Fran and Capn Rod

Saw this at a big marina near Savannah and I just new Santa had wrapped me a new home for Christmas!!! Hehe

It's Sunday morning and all the pews are filled in the seagull church!!!

Thank you Kaye (aka Mamaw Kaye Roseman) for my simply southern Tshirt!!! Great Christmas gift!!

Singing and dancing to Christmas music!! And I was not singing about a white Christmas!!! Haha

Dolphin playing in our wake !!! Sure does intertain Lexie!! Hehe  But of course I love it too!!

12/12/15 Saturday Day 2 Headed South

Another beautiful day on the waterway heading south!! We traveled 10 hours today and with the blessing of great tides and water currents we covered 93 miles!!! That's a record for us to travel in one day!!  We anchored this evening around 5:15pm about 5 miles south of Savannah, Ga on the Wilmington River at Elba Island. A georgeous sunset to share below. Leftovers for dinner, jammies on and resting! Haha   I sometimes wonder how you can be tired sitting and watching the navigation chart. Although if I were in a car I could not walk around, cook, and move around the house!! Lol But still we are tired!! Rod is still working cleaning and checking out the motor room!!  He is like an energizer bunny!!! Ha
I have only a few pics to share, and one from yesterday Rod said was a necessity I post!! Lol
Crossing 3 big sounds today don't make for much picture taking, but the Dolphins were plentiful and the water was smooth as glass!!! That's a blessing!!
I am attaching a website that Paula ( my BBF (best boater friend) in Sanford) stumbled up on yesterday!! This couple posted out boat on their church website. They saw our boat in Sanford last year loved the name of our boat and did some research!! Please take time to look at and read!!! I did post a reply telling them a little about us on their website!!
ask for your prayers for safe travels daily!!! Love to all our family and friends! Fran and Capn Rod

Could you ask for a better view out your back window!!!  Sunset in Savannah!!

We had no idea where this lighthouse came from till we discovered it was attached to a welcome center!! Made out of wood!! But it still was pretty!!

Yesterday the admiral just had to have a nap and of course the Capn had to get a witness shot proving  I was sleeping on the job!!  Hehehe

2/17/15 Tuesday Savannah, Ga

First of all, in case you noticed yesterdays post should have been Monday the 16th not 17th!!, ha
Woke up this morning to warm 60 degrees but cloudy weather. Just as they predicted it was 49 degrees by 3pm. And the wind was blowing!!!,
Rod went up to the dock house this morning to pay our rent here as they were closed on Monday when we arrived. She offered us a free loaner car they offer here!!! Normally they loan it our in 2-3 hour time slots but since we are the only transient boaters here she said we could have it for the day. We just needed to have it back by 5pm. So we took off about 11:30 am and headed for downtown Savannah. Parking in Savannah is much easier on a bike than in a car!!! Ha    We ended up in the parking garage, which is expensive at $2.00 per hour or any part of!!! Wow!! And these people that work here it's $20.00 per day!!! That could sure eat up a payday!!! We walked around some, wind was cold. We decided on a quick burger. And then off to the Tervis outlet, as we just thought we had to have another glass!!! Ha    And of course we found 2 we could not resist!!
We decide to go check out Fort Jackson as we had not been able to go that far on the bike the last 4 times we have been here!!!  It was soooo worth the trip! We got a tour of the fort by a man dressed in the costume of that period called a Butternut!! and gave a lot of history in the use of the fort during the revolutionary war. At that time it was called Mud Fort. An earthen fort at that time. After the war of 1812 it was improved and again in 1840, used extensively to drive back Union ships repeadly to save  Savannah during the Civil War, is the structure we saw today. He also fired one of the cannon!s!!!! What a treat!! It was a great 2 hours!!!
We headed back around 3 pm to the marina, and just in time as it started raining and has rained since!!! Lexie made a quick walk when we returned and came in and cuddled by the heater!!! Pic attached!
Vegatable Beef soup and saltines for dinner!! Texting with the kids and watching videos of them all playing in the snow!!! I really still prefer shorts and tshirts and plenty of sunshine!!! Hehe
I sure hope the weather holds out so we can go to Wormsloe Plantation tomorrow, it's on our list to see before we leave here. We met a guy here on a boat today that was born and raised in Loris, SC just north of MB. He and Rod new a lot of the same people!! Go figure!!! I wasn't surprised!!!
Hope all are staying warm and blessed to have a good heater!!! We are nice and toasty aboard our boat!!
We love you all, Fran and Capn Rod

Our free ride for the day!!! Why can't I ever get one of these when I need to go buy $100.00 worth of groceries!! Wouldnt you know we don't need anything right now! ha  they said "just replace the gas you use" sweet we thought but we got In it and it was empty!!!!!!! Some people just take advantage of a free car! So we put in a full tank!!

Tour guide at Ft Jackson. Needless to say he and Rod had some good conversation!!
Preparing to fire the cannon!!!!

Of course Rod wanted to shoot this big one!!!hehe

Lexie says "who needs a fireplace!!!! I have an electric heater"!!!!

2/16/2014 Sunday

Good evening to all our friends and family!!!  Its been a long day!!! We traveled 91 miles today!!! The tide was good to us and pushed us faster than usual, Rod says it's the full moon!! Who am i to prove him wrong!, Ha   It was beautiful all day today!! We untied our boat about 7:45am this morning, which was about  30 minutes behind schedule, as it took that long to finally get our port (left)) motor started!! That small little starter switch just did not want to cooperate with Rod!!! LOL.
The waters between Brunswick are long but offer incredible scenery. So we just enjoyed the ride, the blue skies, lots of dolphins, and wildlife!!   God really gave us a view hard to beat anywhere.
We finally dropped anchor at Skidaway island just about 27 miles from Savannah, Ga. Enjoyed a sunset, and even the temp is 57 degrees!!  The day tomorrow is starting out at 40 degrees, but the high will be 60!!!!   Sounds good to me!!! We will be docked in Savannah by mid day tomorrow giving us some good walking time around town. We will probably stay 2 days. So check in with me then to find out what our adventure entails!!!
Sorry I have no pictures this evening, promise some tomorrow!!
Love to all, I still ask you to pray for our safe travels home!!! We plan on arriving home in a week!!!! It's almost time to go back to work!!!!

2/14/2014. Friday Valentines Day

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!! What a georgeous day of travel we had today!!!! Chilly cold about 60 degrees all day but the sun was out and the sky was blue, and thats enough to make anyone feel good!!!! Heading north again this morning about 8am, we pulled up anchor and left Fernandina Beach.
It took us about 5 hours to get to Brunswick, Ga where we plan to spend a few days. We were told by Paula and Jim that diesel fuel was really cheap at a shrimp boat dock just a mile or so before we got to the Marina in Brunswick. We called ahead and they said there would be someone there to pump diesel for us. We arrived at a little shack of a bldg., docked and walked up to the office. I attached a pic of this place!!! They were super nice and fuel was $3.14 gal. compared to $4.20 at most marinas. So it was worth the stop and waiting the hour for the guy to get there to fill our tanks. If nothing else we walked and walked until Lexie's was even ready to get back on the boat Ha !!, We came on down to Brunswick Landing Marina and tied up for a few days stay!!! I attached a pic of our first greeters ( it helped I was throwing out food for them)!!! I keep cat food on the back deck so no hungry duck or bird goes unfed!!!  A shower, this time makeup, blow dryer and curling iron included, we got all "gussied up" and went to Indigo Shanty restaurant. It was a recommended place to eat and a close ride on our bike. What a treat!!! Seseme Crusted catfish and blackened Mahi !! Yum and I did not have to cook!!! That was the best part!!! Ha
We have plans to see lots of the town tomorrow along with a farmers market here at the Marina. Dont know how many days we will stay right now we will watch the weather and see!! Hope all got to spend some time with their Valentine today, I sure did!!!
Love to all, stay warm!!!  Ms. Fran and Capt Rod
Coming out of Fernadino beach we saw this beautiful house right at the point of St Andrers sound!! It is the lighthouse keepers house, see next picture !!!
The picture just can't show the magnitude of this scene!!!

Lexie says look Mom I see land and it's close!!!!

Coming into Brunswick!!! This bridge was awesome!!! Even longer and larger than the span bridge in Charleston, SC

Believe it!!!! This is a filling station!!! But the price was right!!!!

My first visitors at the Marina!!! They knew I had cat food!!!! Ha
