January 29-30-31st. 2019 Houston Tx.

I fugured I had better catch up on our last few days!!
We arrived in Lafayette Louisiana late afternoon on the 29th, to the Vermillionville Historic Museum where we had scheduled an over night stay. They told us we needed a full day to tour the area so we set up the motorhome and relaxed.
The next morning, the 30th, we started the day and boy was it eventful. It took all day to see this entire area all about the Cajun (Acadian People from France). And how they came to be here, all about their growth here. There were actors that portrayed them and told us stories. I have a great video of an accordion player, a real French Cajun descendent. He was fabulous. Also met a lady that still to this day gins cotton by hand, spins into thread and looms into blankets, dish towels, and clothes. A fun fun day well spent!!
We said our goodbyes to those at the Museum and thanked them for a free nights stay on the property.
We pulled out about 4pm and headed on toward Houston Tx. After driving 3 hours we stopped at a Cracker Barrel, had supper there and slept for the night.
We arrived in Big League City Tx. just outside of Houston at Safari RV Park where will will stay for 5 days. It started raining about 2 hours after we arrived, but that gave us time to get the motor home set up for the stay here. We discovered we have a broken gear on one of the big slide outs on the motorhome so that will be a repair for Rod, hopefully we can find parts. The manager, Wendy,  gave us names of people and places to call for help and information.
We also have friends here that we have known from boating, Bob and Norma Lawrence. They live aboard a big Traweler like we had named Firefly. We will meet up with them tomorrow.
Praying the rain ends tonight (looks like it will) we will be tourist again!!!
Cooking a pot of homemade vegetable soup for a rainy night supper!!!
Love to all, Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod

January 28th 2019 New Orleans

This is our last day here in New Orleans!! The National parks opened up today. THANK YOU President Trump!!
We went to the Chalmette National Park. It was a self guided tour around the park right on the Mississippi River. The War of 1812 culminated into the battle of New Orleans with 6,0000 British troops trying to overtake New Orleans in the winter of 1814-1815. But the local militia succcussfully Held their ground. This is actually known as the last battle of the War of 1812. Cap’n Rod read every sign and EVERY plaque so he would be glad to discuss with you ANY issue or questions about this battle. LOL
We also made a TV debut while we were there!!! We were interviewed by a local news crew WDSU about the reopening of the national parks. We saw the interview on the NBC news at 6pm.  We can run but we can not hide !!!! Lol
We stopped and purchased a famous Muffuletta!! It’s a 12 inch round sub roll filled with 4 lbs of meats, cheese and an olive salad!!! We enjoyed that on a picnic table at the park!! Had more of it for supper and still enough left for lunch tomorrow!! I have a pic of the monster to share!!
It’s was a grand last day here. Freezing temperatures tomorrow morning so don’t know when we can leave but will check and make sure roads are safe before we head on west. A one day stop in Lafayette Louisiana before we stop in Galveston Tx for a week.
Love to all, Please pray for us a safe journey!!  Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod

January 27th 2019 New Orleans

What a beautiful day !! We just could not stay inside. I was lucky enough to find a great half price coupon on my Groupon APP for a swamp tour at Jean Lafitte Swamp Tours.
We boarded at 12:30 for a 90 min tour. It was hard to keep Rod from wanting to drive the boat!!! Lol
It was a pontoon 50 max passenger, today only about 30 people. Cap’n Jason was our captain and tour guide. He has run this tour for 27 yrs. He knew where all the gators were sleeping, bald eagle nest with babies and and owl with its nest. He said he would love to have Rod come to work but he would need to work on a Cajun accent!  LOL
I have some great pics to share.
Only one more day left here in New Orleans we have throughly enjoyed our time here.
Love to all, Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod

January 25-26 2029

We arrive in New Orleans on Friday the 25th. We had reservations at Bayou Segnette State Park in an area called Westwego. We are only about 20 mins from downtown New Orleans.
By the time we got into the park, set up and set up the motorhome, it was late afternoon. We got out and drove around to check out the area. We decided that we would spend the day in downtown on Bourbon St.
We left the camp ground and saw a fish flee market! Unuaual huh? Thats what it was. Just 25-30 venders with coolers selling their fish, crabs, oysters, and crabs. They also had a food area of which Rod and I had an alligator sausage po boy. Yummy!!! Rod not only likes to see alligators, he like to eat them as well LOL
We arrived downtown this morning about 10:30 and spent the entire day. I have to say it is just as I remembered from many years ago, it’s still just a filthy place!!  We rode the downtown trolly through town and there are some beautiful homes, the college, Loyola collage, was gorgeous. We really enjoyed the ride around town. We stopped a a cafe on Canel St and enjoyed Beignets. Great fluffy square doughnuts covered in powered sugar!! No calories lacking there !!! Hehe
After we had walked as long as we could we went back to where we parked and low and behold A PARKING TICKET!!!
How could they dare ticket such a cute little doodlebug!! Lol
We had simply forgotten to put money in the meter. Oh well it was a great parking spot, but $30.00 ??
Paid for our mistake when I got home via the website!! They make it quiet simple to pay a fine!! Lol
We made reservations for an air boat ride tomorrow through the swamps to see yet some more alligators!! Hehe We both love an airboat always wished we could have had one in Georgetown.
I’ll try and post as many pics as I can!! And let you know what adventures we enjoy tomorrow!!
Love to all, Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod

January 23; 2019

Still in Foley Beach just south of Mobile and just north of Gulfport Alabama. We had a big day planned but needless to say the weather brought all of our plans to a halt!!!
We had 4 inches of rain here to day. There was high winds and a threat of tornados all day. It has been a horrible day for Lexie, her anxiety with thunder has made a bad day for her and us!!
I cleaned house, washed clothes, and cooked meals for us today. I’m between trying to cuddle and console Lexie. It’s a full time job for Rod and I on a day of thunderstorms. It’s 8pm and we still are having some light rain but the worst has passed us on by!!  So glad this day is over.
We have to leave tomorrow as we were only scheduled for 2 days here.
We decided to pull out and go into Mobile and see the USS Alabama and the Mobile History Museum tomorrow and get a camp site at Fort Gaines south of Mobile on the west side of Mobile Bay. It’s about 2 hours to get from one side of the bay traveling north and south again. There is Ferry here to go overs but can not accommodate a motor home. So we will just drive around.
It’s predicted to be a beautiful day tomorrow so travels should go as planned!!
Updated tomorrow!!!
Love to all, Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod
We had a great campsite here at Anchors Away RV Park

January 21-22. 2019

We left Jacksonville early on Monday the 21st. We drove all day through the panhandle of Florida on I-10. What a long dreary road!!! Mostly was amazed at the forest area and fields destroyed by the hurricane.
We bypassed the city of Tallahassee but saw a billboard for an antique car museum. Decided to make a stop and were we ever glad we did. It was a hugh place and had antique memorabilia of just about anything you could think of. Lol.  There was an entire room to the progression of the typewriter!! Funny I learned how to type on one of them!!! Lol old cash registers!!! Some With gold inlay that was beautiful. I will post as many pics as I can. It’s a place I suggest you visit if ever in the area.
We found a Cracker Barrel in Niceville, Fla. Enjoyed a great supper and spent the night.
Pulled Wednesday morning and headed for Mobile Alabama!! We arrived almost 2 hours late to the camp ground due to a 20 mile detour around a section of  I-10. There was an overturned 18 wheeler wreck in I -10. Of course everyone had to detour so there we sat going 2 MPH for 2 hours!!!
We arrived in Foley Beach Alabama at the Anchors Aweigh RV Resort around 3pm!! (We did gain and hour in the time change).
Beautiful RV Park one of the nicest we have stayed in yet.
Got all set up rode up into town checked out some of the area, decided where we were going to visit the next 2 days. And of course hit a Walmart and can you believe they did not have one thing we needed on our list!! (Rod needed 14inch zip ties and a hinge for a cabinet door).
Back at the RV Lexie has been walked and we watching a little TV before bedtime.
Planned a full day tomorrow and praying for good weather. It’s very windy, about 55 degrees and rain is predicted tomorrow!!!!
Love to all, Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod

Cody Sarah and Baby Katie arrived around midnight!! Katie had slept the entire trip from Myrtle Beach but was still ready to go back to bed when they arrived.
Got up on Friday morning and spent the entire day at the zoo IT WAS KATIES 1st BIRTHDAY!!!!
We had a great day seeing all the animals, riding the train around the park, and riding the carousel!!

I was became a mom (many years ago) as it was also Sherry’s birthday!! Spent some time talking to her. So wish I could have seen her as well. I got pics of the party they had for her at home!! I love you bunches!! I can’t belive how old I have gotten!!! Hehe
We went to Singleton Seafood here in Jacksonville and we all devoured a plate of seafood that was unreal!!! We will be eating leftovers for days!!lol
