February 22-23-24-25-26-27. 2019 San Antonio, TX

This has been such a week!!! Just dealing with insurance is a hassle in itself but when you are not in a familiar place you just deal with it the best you can!!
We finally got the insurance to make a decision on fixing our beloved VW. And they totaled it. And bought out what we had insured it for. So sad to see it go but being so gra from home we decided the best option was to take the money and buy another car that would serve our traveling and towing purpose. We would have kept the VW if we had been at home as Rod knew it would be fixable.
So car shopping we went!!!  Our Biggest obstical was finding a company that was able to title and tag it in SC. Most dealer ships were not able to help us.  Stopped into a Toyota dealership which all of them did said sure we can title it in SC !!! I said really?? Please make sure before we waste your time and ours. Sure enough the manager came and said no problem. They got us into a cute little basic 2014 Chevrolet Spark no freals, one owner car that we were able to make a deal and tagged and title in SC!!!!  Next obstacle!!! A tow bar for the motorhome. The one we had was made for the VW and would not work on any other car. Searching 1500-2000 dollars!!!!! So we decided to check out a few pawn shops and ask around to possibility of finding a used one. We got home late that day and I didn’t feel cooking a meal was in my capibilities!! Lol.
We drove into the small town here near the RV park called Lytle, TX. We had drove through there a few days ago and knew there was a whata burger, sonic. But on our way there we remembered a small diner ( Naomi’s Diner) that was down in town so we decided to check it out!!!  That evening God sent us our Guardian Angel!!!  Naomi herself came and sat with us at our table. We ate the days special roasted turkey gravy, homemade  dressing, green beans and tea!!! She ask about our story and travels and we told her about the accident, not being able to find a tow bar, and having to spend the next few days looking in hopes of finding a used one. She told u she had lived here all her life and would put out a mass message and she would find us a tow dollie!! We thanked her and left feeling we had met a wonderful lady.

She texted me the next day and said come have supper at the diner this evening, my treat and let’s talk I have you a Dollie !!!
We had great meatloaf, mash potatoes and green beans!!! It was yummy!!  She said come tomorrow get my truck, I will have directions and go look a the Dollie an friend of a friend of a friend of her son called her and told her his uncle had one for $600.00.
We went and got her truck Crowe about 8 miles and saw the Dollie. Needed some TLC but for $600.00 Rod was thrilled!!!  We towed it Naomi’s truck back to our RV park, returned her truck to the restaurant and guess what!!! She had a fish platter sitting waiting for us to come eat!!!
She was as excited as we were that God had answered our prayers!!!
We will be here until March 6th and leave for Big Bend National Park in west Texas!
Please keep our travels in your prayers!!
Love to all, Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod

February 20th & 21st. 2019 San Antonio, Tx

Wednesday 20th.   Cleaning day!!! All house work completed, clothes washed, Rod washed the motor home organized the bins in the bottom!, (our basement lol).
Thursday 21st.  We started the day with phone calls!! I’m am in such disbelief  of  service people. They never call you back, and don’t get in any hurry to make things happen!!! Slide on the motor home is still not repaired we have the part but can’t get anyone to call us to schedule us a time for repair. The insurance company is trying to get in touch with the adjuster that needs to submit the paper work to start the repairs on the VW. Very frustrating!!! I’m still trying to just believe God is keeping us here for a reason.
We travel to north San Antonio to a suggested tourist sight given to us by the lady at the post office!!!
The. Natural Caverns of San Antonio!!! What a treat. We have seen many caverns on our adventures but this was the only one I EVER visited that was 80 degrees inside the cavern. It is a 55 degree day here so we thought we going down 200-300 feet we better dress for the trip!!  NOT!!!! It was 80 degrees and 99% humidity!! My big disappointment was the ticket sales area saw how we and many others were dressed and they said not one word to us about maybe we should leave our coats behind?? Well duh!!!! I went back to the ticket booth and told the clerks that I was very disappointed someone did not tell us and they ask if I would fill out a survey card with my opinion. After climbing 1000 steps or better wearing a sweatshirt, jeans and a heavy coat in 80 degree weather I was beat!!!
Still a great tour and glad we went. There is also a Desert Afraican safari there as well which we will return and visit at a later date.
Back to the motorhome and resting for the evening! More phone calls tomorrow!! What is they say The squeaky wheel gets the grease??  ðŸ˜‚
Love to all!! We sure appreciate all the prayers!! We really are ready to move on with our trip!!
Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod

February 19th 2019 San Antonio, Tx

The last couple of days have been dealing with the car accident and trying to get everything completed to just start the work on the VW. Insurance companies are not in a hurry to get anything done fast. We have a rental car so we can get out and go places.
Last night we went to the San Antonio National Rodeo!!! Rodney’s first time ever at a real rodeo!! He was like a kid!!! Lol The Rodeo is also paired with a concert so we also saw a 2 hour concert with Kelsey Ballerini. It was a great night!!!
We also still dealing with someone to come and repair the slide out on the motor home!! Sometimes I wonder how people run business and never follow up with customers. Amazes me how they stay in business.
We signed up today to stay here in the Country Breeze RV Park till March 6th. And pray repairs will be completed by then.
It’s ugly weather today so it’s a movie day at home!!!
Love to all and please continue to pray for us!! We really feel God is holding us here for a reason.
Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod
I hate I can’t post the fantastic videos I took at the Rodeo!!!

February 14th 2019 San Antonio, Tx

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!! I hope each of you were able to spend some time today with someone you love!!! 💖
After such a rotten day yesterday dealing with the accident, we decided to complete the last 2 of the Missions of San Antonio today. All of them have been such a learning experience.
After seeing the last one we traveled into downtown San Antonio to the river walk and spent the entire afternoon/ evening.
Funny after doing tours for 25 yrs Rod still wanted to take the river walk narrated boat tour!!! Lol
A wonderful 1 hour tour and best of all!!! Senior rate $9.00 !!! There are advantages to getting old! Lol
We decided to partake in a local restaurant, The Republic of Texas, sitting right on the river walk for dinner. There are thousands to chose from along the river. A great way to end another great day in this town.
Love to all!! Please continue to pray for safety in our travels. Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod

February 13th VW accident

I finally downloaded the pics of the accident!!! Read about it in the previous post!!

February 9,10,11,12,13. 2019

2/9/2019 Saturday Today we spent the day at the motorhome as Rod got up with a stomach bug. He felt like crap and could not venture too far form the bathroom. It was a movie day!! Lol
2/10/19 Sunday Well guess what this morning I got up at 2am with the same stomach bug!! All we could do was sit home and wait it out. This too will pass.
2/11/19 Monday We stayed around all day waiting for the guy to repair our Slide on the motor home he said he would be here between 11am and 2 pm. At 3pm Rod called him and he said he was not able to find the gear needed to replace our bad one. I said well now a fine time to be telling us that information!!!!! He said last Wednesday it would be no problem and replace it very easy.  SURE!!!! I was a bit upset as Why did he wait till the last minute to inform us of him not having any parts!!!! He gave us a name of a part place, of which we called and ordered the part for $35.00 said it would be 3-5 days to arrive and he would come put it on for us!! So let’s hope he is good on his word!!
2/12/19 Tuesday Both of us felt better with our stomach bug and really needed to get out of the house for a while. We really had cabin fever. We chose to go see a couple more of the Missions here. We have visited the Alamo so we went to Mission Conception, Then to San Juan. These are much smaller than the Alamo but had lots of history to learn. We spent several hours at these 2 so it was to late to try and  get in the last one. We will fit it in another day.
2/13/19 Wednesday. We slept in as we stayed up and watched movies late late night so we did not get started out till 11am. We decided to go out and have a late breakfast. Instead we spent taking care of our car accident!!!!! We pulled off on an exit at the interstate and missed our road to turn right into the restaurant. Rod pulled off on the side and. A lady pulled out of the side road, did. To see us sitting there and hit us in the right quarter panel of the WV. Bless it’s heart it may not make it her big SUV hit it hard. quarter panel, fender, bumper, wheel and tire is distroyed. By the time the police completed the report, the tow truck and officer gave us a good VW repair shop. Tow guy took us ther and we left the bug there. They have a hugh parts store for old VWs an $feel they can fix it in about 2 weeks. We got us a rental car and came Home so Rod could nurse me back to health as I have a 2 inch gash on the side of my head. The only thing we can figure is my head hit the seatbelt bracket right at the head rest. It’s on the right side toward the back. EMS checked it out and I refused to go to the hospital I knew it did not need stitches and I felt fine. So I’ve monitored myself all afternoon and done nothing but rest. Taken Ibuprofen for a slight headache. Just thankful it was not worse than it could have been. We will probably have to stay here a little longer than expected. The shoo said he could have the car fixed in 2 weeks unless the insurance totals it. In that case I guess we will be buying a vehicle. We are really hoping it can be repaired. It’s been a stressful day but God was with us and cars can be fixed!!!
I have a few pics to share from the last few days!!
Love to all and pray for us please, Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod

February 6-7-8 2019 San Antonio, TX

2/6/2019. We got the motorhome ready except for the broke slide that would go in and waited till Our friends Bob and Norma arrived to assist!!! YEAH!!! It worked !! With Rod and Bob pushing, me inside with the electronic motor and Norma cheering them on, in it went and sealed very well!! Told them our good byes and hope we get to see them gain before 5 yrs has passed. We will always be friends no matter how many miles separate us. We pulled out of League City, Tx and headed west on I-10 to San Antonio, Texas. It was about a 4 hour trip but lots of great country to see. We arrived at our RV destination The Country Breeze RV Park around 2pm got all set up and called the guy that we had been told was good at repairing RV slideouts. A very knowledgeable man that said he knew exactly what we needed, Rod sent him serial numbers and part numbers. He ordered it and will be here on Monday to replace. Until then we chose to not take the slide out just Incase we had to move or something before Monday!!! Lol so we are living on short living room space.
2/6/2019 Wednesday We stayed here in the park made. list of some repairs needed (simple stuff) grocery list and then took a long bicycle ride around the area. This park seems way out in the country, lots of cows, horses, and cactus everywhere, yet we are only 11 miles from downtown San Antonio. Nice quiet place.
2/7/2019 Thursday This is a Bucket List checkoff day!!! Took Rod to THE ALAMO !!!!! We was elated!!!! We spent 3 hours in the place with an Audio Tour we purchased where you carry a device and stop at each place, type in the number on a sign and it tells you about the area. He had a great day. I know the Alamo was not this big and this much of it open to the public when I was here many years ago, so I enjoyed it as well. Walked through town, saw part of the river walk and decided to make that another day trip. I want to come again at night as well, as the lantern festival is taking place all month on the river Walk!!!!  The National Rodeo is here the next 2 weeks and that will be a place we will visit one day as well.
2/8/2019  Friday. We woke this morning to 37 degree weather!!!! Yesterday was 78 degrees!!
I don’t do cold so today was a sit at home watch TV day!!! LOL. Rod did talk me into a Walmart run for a few things, but that was it!!!! The weekend is not suppose to be much better until Monday then it will be in the mid 50s. I may get out then!! LOL agin we don’t know what time our repair man will be here Monday either. But we are retired!!! Time is not important!! Hehe
Love to all!!! Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod
