April 7-8-9-10th. 2019 Wichita, Kansas

7th We left the Dodge City and drove to Halstead, Kansas and set up camp again at Spring Lake RV Park in Halstead Kansas about 25 miles north of Wichita Kansas. This place is wya out in the boondocks but it’s half price the campgrounds in he big cities. Plus we love the backroad scenery of driving around to go to places. Closest Walmart was 10 miles so we went and bought a few needed supplies. You know when you don’t have much space you spot every few days LOL.
8th. We got up and took off to see our first chosen tour!!  Cow Town!!! The BEST old cowboy town we have seen yet on the entire trip!! We walked around went into every store and and enjoyed the history of times back in the cowboy days!!! We met the blacksmith of the town and what a treat! This gentleman has been a blacksmith his entire life and worked at this town for 17 yrs. pics will be attached. Went into the saloon and had a hotdog (I feel sure they did not serve hotdogs back then ha) and of course a Sarsaparilla!! (Just a rootbeer drink) it was a grand day!!
9th We went back into Wichita again to the Kansas ZOO!! It has been a long time isnce we have been to a zoo, (probably in Sanford Fla when we were there on the boat) what a nice relaxing day. We enjoyed the whole zoo but their exhibit of Gorillas was the best I have ever seen. They were so public friendly. Came down to the huge windows and interacted with all of us. A huge silverback dad, and 3 moms with 3 babies. All young and sat at the windows and played with the kids through the window. One of the moms came and sat down with her back to us and made the baby come nurse. It was adorable. Then they got their toys and wanted us to watch!! Fabulous exhibit!!
We packed a lunch and glad we did cause no snack bars were open in the zoo. As we ate a family started talking to us that was from here and their oldest daughter was a real history buff (somehow it came up,can you guess how? Lol) so her and Rodney really hit it off and the stories began!! She was so excited and ask him questions which just kept him going!!! You that know him know that is easy to do!! LOL
10th We planned a tour from the Wichita website that I thought looked fun when I told Rodney he
knew this man well and started telling he all about him. Frank Lloyd Wright!! You must google him!! He is famous for building extravagant homes all over the would for famous people. We schedule a tour in the home he built here for the governor James Allen in 1810. Omg!! The most incredible home to have lived in back then!!! I have a few pics but it know where near shows the magnificent ornate structure of this home. It was a 2 our tour and a few others schedule did not show so we had a private tour with a retired History Professor named DJ. She was incredible! Another great adventure.
Then we drove around what they call Old Town and found the place several people told us was the best Ribs and BBQ in Kansas. The place?  Bite Me BBQ!!! Lol. I had ribs, Rod had brisket and pulled pork and all the fixings!! Believe me a lot came home with us. I prepared for going so I took a cooler bag full of freezer bags so we could get it home safe from spoiling! That will be another meal for us.
Then we decided to go see the Botanical Gardens! A beautiful place and probably in the summer there would have been millions of flowers it today it was like MILLIONS of Tulips!!! I have never
seen so many in one place! I took many photos but still just does not show the beauty.
Another long day and we were exhausted when we got home. Resting up tonight, pulling out tomorrow morning headed for Kansas City. Actually we will be staying in Topeka, Kansas. So we can see both cities! We will plan our adventures when we get there,
Love to all, Please pray for our safe journeys, Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod
I’ll post ASAP! Tonight the internet is not strong enough! 😝
