June 14-24th 2019 South Dakota and Wyoming

Woohoo!!! Finally got out of the Rocky Mountains and to a place with some internet capabilities!!!!
So let’s back up!!
June 14th We traveled 9 1/2 hours to Sioux Falls, SD headed to Deadwood SD but could not drive any farther!!!! We spent the night at a Cracker Barrel!!! The manager said this is the last one we would see till we headed back home, as there are non any farther west!!

June 15th We pulled out of the Cracker Barrel around 6:30 am as we had reservation at Steel Wheel RV Park in Deadwood tonight. We arrived around 1 pm and got all set up for our 3 day stay.

June 16th. First stop MT RUSHMORE!!! I was astounded as to how much the park itself had grown but the presidents faces were still the same I had seen 40 some years ago!!  Lol. We then went to the Crazy House monument!!  Just in its beginning stages. They told us our great grand children would be the ones to see it at its completion!! When completed it will be the largest rock statue in the world.
I hope they will one day see it and say my great grandparents saw it when it was first started!!!

June 17th.  We drove to Rapid City, SD to visit Bear Country. It’s a drive through park where the biggest portion of the animals are roaming free and come look in your car as you go by. That evening we went into Deadwood, SD and walked the street and watched the gun fight of Wild Bill Hickok and the trial of Jack McCall who shot him!!! Fun little theater street and trial in the saloon shows.

June 18th We went back to downtown Deadwood as there is soooo much history that Rod wanted to see as much as possible. Visited the cemetery where Wild Bill and Calamity Jane are buried and of course read all the history possible!!! Fun Fun day!! I do believe Rod has gotten his fill of all the old Cowboy history in the old west!!!

June 19th We decided to drive back east on the interstate about 2 hours to visit a 1880s authentic town we had seen on the way to deadwood but no time to stop. We were so glad we did it was as authentic town as possible could have been created. Lots of movie set buildings there from the movie Dances with Wolves!! On the way back to Deadwood we also visited the Famous town of Wall Drug which they said was featured many time on NBC network. To us it was nothing but a hug tourist trap!!! Lol

June 20th. We left Steel Wheel RV Park and drove 6 1/2 hours to Cody Wyoming.  We could not check into our campground in Yellowstone National Park till tomorrow so we spent the night a a campground, I mean a real campground at the Walmart!!!!!  22 RVs set up in the lot set aside for
Campers!!!! That’s a new one!!!!  It was good as they also had an automotive dept and we needed
tires for the dolly that pulls our car. Rod took them off, put them in a shopping cart, they put on new tires and he carted them back and put them on in one hour!!!! Lol I replenished groceries for the 3 days in Yellowstone!!!

June 21st.  We got set up around 12:30 pm at Green Creek RV Park. Small little place expensive and no amenities which we don’t need anyway, but the price was way out of line. BUT this time of year you take what you can get and it was clean and a safe place. We had laundry to do and some house cleaning and motorhome needed washing so that  was our chore afternoon.

June 22nd. We were in an RV park on the south of Yellowstone but we were determined to see Old Faithful. SNOW OR NOT!!! Yes there was plenty of snow and wind chill was 35 degrees!! Cloudy day made old faithful not as spectacular as it could be if it were a nice sunny day. the drive and all the wildlife made the day a fabulous one anyway!!

June 23rd We went back to the far north of Yellowstone to see The Tower Falls. That was a great view but again the wildlife for us was the most fabulous!!!! Buffalo, Dear, Large horned Rams, Black bears, A grizzly bear!!! Wow it was a great day trip. We also stopped at Canyon Village and did the tourist gift shop thing!!, lol

June 24th We had to leave the campground that day but really wanted to go back to Cody, SD ( only 25 miles) and see the town and the Rodeo!!!! We we went back to the Walmart campground and went the Rodeo this evening!!! A FABULOUS evening. Before we went to the Rodeo we went to the Buffalo Dam the largest at its time of completion in 1910!!
