July 6th - 12th 2019 near San Francisco, Ca

Man I cant believe I am so far behind in posting. Just having too much fun and moving a lot since we left Nevada on the 5th of July.

July 6th.  We spent our last day in Cal-Nev-Ari, Nevada repairing a broken bed!!! Always something!! Just a small little screw had worked it’s way out of the rail that slides the bed in out out everyday!!! It takes up the whole room if you don’t set the bed in an upright sitting position. Of course looking through all over the floor of the bed it was no where to be found!! Off we went to the Ace hardware store 20 miles into Bullhead City, Arizona. Rod found the exact screw and bolt needed. Got back home the repair was completed in 20 mins, an dbed back together!!! Fixed!!!!

July 7th We traveled 3 1/2 hours to Frandy’s RV Park in Kernville , Ca. We had the nicest Host mgr Meg, a young girl that was really interested in coming to the east coast as she has never been there. She had lots of questions about our part of the country, she stayed late to check us in as we had horrible traffic being the Sunday after the 4th I guess everyone was traveling home. We arrived at 5:30 (we should have been there around 3pm). Got checked in and set up and walked up to the Pizza Barn just outside the park and had a salad and a pizza. After a long day it was great.

July 8th.  We got up early and headed to the Sequoia National Forest. We found out there is a big difference in the Forest and 5e National Park. We were very disappointed to find out the National Park is another 3-4 hour drive north. But we went on into the forest anyway and we were not disappointed!! We went to the Trail of 100 Giants and spent almost 2 hours there. An incredible easy walk that took us by some of the largest Sequoia trees Rod had never seen before. We drove through Sherman’s pass over the mountain which was the most crooked road we had ever been on!!! Lol It
had been so many years since I had been here that even I was excited!!! Just driving through the
forest was an incredible view and the weather was awesome.

July 9th.   We spent the day walking through the small town of Kernville. We found a few antique shops where Rod found an old book Wild Times of the Life of Hugh Cartrell. He’s still reading it every night. We rode over to Lake Isabelle a hugh Lake in the valley of the mountains, the views were just breath taking.

July 10th We left Frandy’s RV Park and headed north to Viking RV Park in Kingsbury, Ca  now we can get to the Sequoia, National Park in about an hour. Made a Walmart run for a few needed supplies. And rested up that evening.

July 11th We took off again for now The Sequoia National Park.  We were in the park 5 hours!!!! Again amazed by all the huge sequoia trees. Saw the largest tree in the world The Sherman Sequoia
Tree!!!!  I got a pic of Rod standing on a brick circle the exact size of the base of the tree.  There is no pic that shows the magnitude of its size!!! So worth the steep 1/2 mile walk down hill to the tree. And they give you a free shuttle back up to the parking lot!!!! Really nice for us old people!!! LOL
Went to the famous Auto Tree that many years ago was a real road, but has now deteriorated badly.
Went and drove through the auto Tunnel tree (I got pics of our little buggy “Sparky” during through!!). I really wanted to see the Tharp Cabin built in 1880 carved out of a fallen Sequoia tree. 1.25 miles there !!!!! I paid the price with my hip after a 2 1/2 mile hike up and down hills. But a can’t say it was not worth every step. On the walk there we saw Crescent Meadows a gorgeous grass meadow in the middle of the forest!!! Again a view I would not have wanted to miss seeing.

July 12th today we only drove about 100 miles to Fisherman’s Bend RV Park almost directly between San Francisco and Yosemite National Park. We will be here for 4 days. Driving here today we have
never seen soooooo many vineyards and orchards!!! Oh also corn fields, sweet potato fields,
strawberry farms and  cucumbers, watermelons wow!!!  Even saw the Sunkist raisin factory and the Halo factory!!!! Great drive today!!!

I’ll try and post as many pics as I can!!   Love to all, Ms. Fran & Cap’n Rod
